President Trump urged voters in Virginia Tuesday to head to the polls and vote for Republican candidate Ed Gillespie for governor.

“.@EdWGillespie will totally turn around the high crime and poor economic performance of VA. MS-13 and crime will be gone. Vote today, ASAP!” Mr. Trump tweeted.

He also slammed Mr. Gillespie’s opponent, Democratic Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam, saying he’s “weak” on veteran and gun issues.

“Ralph Northam will allow crime to be rampant in Virginia. He’s weak on crime, weak on our GREAT VETS, Anti-Second Amendment….” Mr. Trump tweeted. Then he added, “….and has been horrible on Virginia economy. Vote @EdWGillespie today!”

Mr. Trump is currently in South Korea as part of his lengthy overseas trip to Asia, but his tweets show that he has an eye on Election Day here in the U.S.

The Virginia race remains competitive as people head to the polls Tuesday with Mr. Northam at a slight 3-point lead in the Real Clear Politics average of polls.

While Virginia has been trending blue the past few cycles, incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Warner only won his seat by less than 1 point in 2014. He ran against Mr. Gillespie, who was then running for the Senate seat.
