HOBBS, N.M. (AP) - Police in Hobbs say a 19-year-old man is in custody for allegedly shooting at a bank employee after an armed robbery at an ATM machine.

They say Lazarus Shamar Sanders, of Hobbs, was taken into custody without incident Monday.

Police say Sanders had a firearm in his possession in addition to the money taken during the robbery.

He’s being held on suspicion of robbery, aggravated assault and unlawful carry of a deadly weapon.

Sanders remains in the Hobbs City Jail pending his arraignment.

It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.

Hobbs police responded to a shots-fired call around 11:15 a.m. Monday.

Sanders allegedly stole money from the ATM and shot at a bank employee who was trying to watch the suspect until police arrived.
