Police are investigating a videotaped altercation between a woman and an officer at a University of Miami football game Saturday, and charged the woman with felony battery for slapping the officer.

However, the officer retaliated, punching the woman in the head.

Miami police are investigating the officer’s conduct to make sure proper procedures were followed in the incident, Miami-Dade Police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta told the Associated Press.

Bridget Freitas, a 30-year-old nurse, was charged with felony battery and misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

In a widely distributed video clip, Freitas is seen being carried by multiple officers up the steps when she goes to swing, hitting Detective Doug Ross with her backhand.

Ross immediately responds by throwing a punch with his right hand, hitting Freitas, who slumps into the officers’ arms.

According to the arrest report, Freitas had been arguing with other fans and was “using profanity in a loud, boisterous manner’’ when officers arrived. They say they tried to calm her down and asked her to move to the concourse, but she refused and sat on the steps.

Information from the Associated Press was used in this report.
