A North Carolina high school gymnasium erupted into chorus Tuesday night after the school’s PA system playing the national anthem ran into technical difficulties.
Before the Terry Sanford High School basketball team took on Cape Fear in Fayetteville, winning 73-71, fans on both sides belted out “The Star-Spangled Banner” in an inspiring display of patriotism.
“The natinal [sic] anthem wouldn’t play, so the Cape Fear and Terry Sanford fans took care of it #run910,” Fayetteville Observer sportswriter Patrick Obley tweeted along with a video, The News & Observer reported.

Mr. Obley joked about the singing skills of some in the crowd but said it was all done in fun.
“This was a really cool thing,” he wrote. “All did it with a smile, nearly cracking up. No consensus on where to go with the high note at the end. Randy Jackson would say there were a lot of pitchy dawgs in the house. I say the writer of the tweet can’t spell ’national’ … Cripes.”

The lighthearted moment comes as NFL players nationwide continue to kneel during the national anthem as a protest against racial injustice in America and President Trump.
