NEW YORK (AP) - New York City police believe an apartment fire that injured multiple people was set by an emotionally disturbed woman.

Crews responded to the fire at the Harlem public housing complex around 7 p.m. Tuesday. Several floors of the building were evacuated.

Authorities say multiple police officers and EMS workers suffered from smoke inhalation. According to the New York City Fire Department, two civilians were injured.

Police say an emotionally disturbed woman might have started the fire inside of her apartment. The woman was taken to a hospital where she is in critical condition.

Charges are pending.
