PORT ORCHARD, Wash. (AP) - A 73-year-old member of the East Bremerton Rotary has been charged with sexual misconduct with a minor for allegedly sleeping with a 17-year-old girl who was in Bremerton through a Rotary foreign exchange program.
The Kitsap Sun reported Thursday that Larry Iversen was charged in October with the felony crime that describes using a supervisory position to have sex with a minor older than 16.
Authorities say Iversen had been the ’youth exchange officer’ for the East Bremerton Rotary, a volunteer service organization.
Court documents say the girl’s host family discovered the alleged relationship when reviewing a cellphone they had given her to use.
Detectives say Iversen told them the relationship started in spring 2017 after he bought her a ring at a Rotary auction.
Iversen has been permanently banned from the club.
The Kitsap Daily News reports Iversen’s attorney, Tim Kelly, said Iversen will plead not guilty.
