President Trump met Thursday with House Republicans at the Capitol, cheering them on before they put the tax reform bill to a vote.
Mr. Trump arrived at the Capitol shortly after 11:30 a.m. for the closed-door meeting with the GOP conference.
He was expected to deliver a “rah-rah” speech and not get into any of the sticky details of the legislation, said a White House official.
Republican lawmakers said the bill would easily pass with several votes to spare.
“This is a great day,” Rep. Dave Bratt, Virginia Republican, said on his way into the meeting.
He said the reforms would gain popularity if Mr. Trump aggressively sold the benefits of job creation and higher wagers to Americans.
