NEW YORK (AP) - Police say the suspect in a slashing has been taken into custody after he scaled a fence at a New York City school and climbed into the building through the roof.

The New York Police Department says the man was wanted for a slashing and robbery in the Bronx Monday night. He was being chased by officers when he climbed a fence near Public School 119.

As officers gathered below him, he pulled himself on top of the school building and climbed in through a window.

Police say they searched the building and found him hiding in a closet.

The Department of Education says no students or staff members were in the school at the time.
