MESA, Ariz. (AP) - Police in Mesa still are trying to determine the cause of last week’s double fatal apartment fire, but they don’t believe it’s a criminal investigation.
They say 29-year-old Jazmin Bridges and her 4-year-old son Keyron Goins were found dead in the apartment after the blaze was extinguished.
Police say both victims apparently were sleeping in a bedroom when the May 2 fire occurred.
Arizona Department of Economic Security officials say Bridges worked in the agency’s Chandler office.
Police received a 911 call about smoke coming from an apartment. When firefighters arrived, they say the smoke was coming from a nearly extinguished blaze inside a bedroom.
According to police, the bodies were badly burned and were taken to the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsies and positive identifications.
