HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say they’ve charged a member of the MS-13 street gang with firing a gun at a group of people in a Long Island yard last summer, wounding two men.
Newsday reports (https://nwsdy.li/2qWLk7G ) that Nassau County police say 19-year-old Jose Barahona, of Uniondale, was arrested Sunday in an East Meadow park. He was charged with five counts of attempted murder and is being held in jail pending a court appearance Wednesday.
Police say Barahona opened fire on five people in a Hempstead yard early on the morning of Aug. 17. A 37-year-old man and a 20-year-old man were hit. Both survived.
Police didn’t say what led to the shooting.
Officials say Barahona is a member of MS-13, blamed for a deadly outbreak of violence on Long Island.
It couldn’t be determined from prosecutors if Barahona has a lawyer.
