NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) - Authorities say one person was killed and two others were critically injured when their vehicle crashed into a tree and fire hydrant.

The Daily Press reports (https://bit.ly/2qlJ2Sn) the car appears to have overturned after the impact Monday.

Newport News Master Police Officer Brandon Maynard says firefighters extricated three people from the overturned car wreck. He says a man was pronounced dead moments after emergency responders arrived. The other two were transported to the hospital with critical injuries.



Police say the investigation is ongoing.
