RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - Unexpectedly strong winds cut off power for more than 20,000 Vermont homes and businesses.
The Rutland-Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2pRKBVf) Friday evening’s sudden windstorm prompted Green Mountain Power to deliberately cut power in Rutland because so many power lines were down that it posed a risk of electrocution. The power company says wind gusts hit up to 74 miles per hour.
Crews worked to restore power overnight. But the company’s website says more than 3,000 customers in Rutland are still without power.
The American Red Cross set up an emergency reception center in Rutland but says no residents needed services.
