GOVERNMENT CAMP, Ore. (AP) - Although the snow is still piled high, Mt. Hood Meadows will end its ski season Saturday afternoon.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reports (https://goo.gl/XqQuB9 ) that resort officials say while they prefer to keep winter going as long as possible the May 6 closure has been planned for some time.

Mt. Hood Skibowl closed for the winter ski season in mid-April.

Timberline Ski Area is the mountain’s summer skiing and snowboarding area. A renowned offseason ski destination, it hosts summer freestyle and race camps - including, this year, training for U.S. Olympic athletes.

While the resort tapers its operations in the spring, shutting down lower-elevation chairlifts as snow melts, its Palmer chairlift ferries skiers to 8,540 feet on nice spring and summer days.
