GARDEN CITY, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a possible tornado destroyed an auto parts store and damaged several other buildings in a community just west of Savannah.

Local news outlets report a powerful storm Thursday evening overturned several cars and knocked down traffic signals in Garden City.

WTOC-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2pe2JY1 ) Garden City Fire Chief Corbin Medeiros said six buildings were damaged in addition to the demolished store. One person was injured and declined medical assistance.

The damage came as a storm system was crossing a wide area of southeast Georgia on Thursday evening. Georgia Power reported more than 900 homes and businesses in the Savannah area were without electricity as a result.
