DEDHAM, Mass. (AP) - A man charged with firing a gun during a confrontation between rival gang members at a suburban Boston mall has been held on $75,000 bail.

The Patriot Ledger (https://bit.ly/2smEw39 ) reports that 24-year-old Michael Spence pleaded not guilty at his video arraignment Tuesday to armed assault to murder and firearms charges.

No injuries were reported during the shooting Feb. 3, but the gunfire created a chaotic scene at the South Shore Plaza in Braintree as panicked shoppers ran for safety and police swarmed the scene.

Police say Spence was arrested based on surveillance video and the GPS device he was wearing for an unrelated gun charge that confirmed he was at the mall.

Spence’s lawyer said he had his client stay out of sight at the arraignment to prevent influencing witness identification.
