HENDERSON, N.C. (AP) - A fire has destroyed a North Carolina janitorial supply factory for the second time in 15 years.

News outlets report that multiple fire departments responded to a call at ETC Henderson Inc. on Monday morning. Fire crews were able to prevent the blaze from spreading beyond the gutted factory.

Around 75 employees were on site, and able to escape uninjured. Nearby neighborhoods were evacuated as a precaution. Black smoke from the fire was visible for 30 miles. Investigators say non-toxic adhesive from the factory flowed into local yards.

Henderson Mayor Eddie Ellington called the fire a tremendous loss for the city. A major fire previously destroyed the factory in 2003.

Authorities have not released any information about the fire’s cause.
