MCINTIRE, Iowa (AP) - Organizers have raised about half the $10,000 needed for a veterans memorial in a tiny northern Iowa town.
Vietnam veteran Marvin King is among those supporting efforts to erect a memorial in the Mitchell County community of McIntire, which has about 120 residents. King says: “We thought every other town has one; why not us?”
The Mason City Globe Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/2rcmP6W ) the 20-foot-long limestone monument will include U.S. and Iowa flags and be placed by the gazebo near City Park. There will be plaques in a half circle, each representing a different branch of the military.
A dedication ceremony is planned for Aug. 12.
