FAIR LAWN, N.J. (AP) - A woman accused of leaving the scene of an accident that killed her husband is now facing an upgraded charge.

Bergen County prosecutors had initially charged Ammara Chaudhry with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision resulting in serious bodily injury.

But they announced Tuesday that the 33-year-old Fair Lawn woman is now charged with leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle collision. That’s because an autopsy determined her 35-year-old husband, Daniel Offield, died from the injuries suffered in the May 6 accident.

Authorities say Chaudhry left the couple’s home during an argument and Offield jumped on her vehicle as she drove off. He then fell off and suffered various injuries.

Chaudhry allegedly fled the scene without notifying authorities.

A telephone number for Chaudhry could not be located Tuesday. It’s not known if she’s retained an attorney.
