WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - A Worcester dentist has been acquitted of charges he sexually assaulted a patient during a dental procedure last year.
The Telegram & Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/2qSOI3N ) 55-year-old Nikhilkumar Patel, of Shrewsbury, was found not guilty Tuesday of one count of indecent assault and battery.
Patel was accused of inappropriately touching a female patient during a procedure in August 2016.
One of Patel’s lawyers says the verdict was “fair and just.” He says Patel’s license to practice dentistry remains active.
Patel still faces five additional counts of indecent assault and battery stemming from allegations by two other women. Prosecutors allege Patel rubbed his crotch against the arm of one female patient and touched the breasts of another woman on multiple visits.
A second trial is set for Aug. 14.
