GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina transportation officials say a section of the future Interstate 73 is scheduled to open soon.
State Transportation Secretary Jim Trogdon said in a news release that a portion of the future interstate between N.C. Highway 68 and U.S. 220 will open to traffic at noon Friday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony..
The new 6-mile section of highway will allow traffic to travel on two lanes in each direction at 65 mph. There are no stoplights and intersections, meaning travel time is improved and safety increased by eliminating possible collision points in the section of road in Guilford County.
Transportation officials are asking drivers to proceed with caution as crews will be on the roadside removing barricades and uncovering directional signs after the highway opens.
