PITTSBURGH (AP) - A 2-year-old girl has died in a crash on Interstate 279 near Pittsburgh that occurred after the car she was in suddenly began driving in reverse.

State police say the crash happened about 1 a.m. Thursday near the Perrysville Avenue ramp in the northbound lanes.

Police say the car with the girl in it stopped and began driving in reverse in the wrong direction before it was hit by another car.



It’s not clear why the car was in reverse, but police the girl was not in a child seat or seat belt.

The 24-year-old man driving that car and another 22 year-old passenger were also injured, as was the 21-year-old driver of the second car.

The medical examiner identified the dead girl as Saryiah Jefferson, of West View.

The others’ names and conditions weren’t immediately released.
