ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Authorities say a second person has died after a head-on crash involving an SUV heading the wrong way on a Maryland highway.
Maryland State Police said in a statement that 66-year-old Robert Skidmore of Cape St. Clair died Wednesday at a Baltimore hospital after his Mercedes SUV was hit by a Volkswagen Tiguan headed the wrong way on eastbound U.S. Route 50 in Annapolis.
Authorities received numerous 911 calls about a vehicle driving the wrong way, and then, about a crash.
Police say 22-year-old Laura Murphy of Salisbury, who was driving the Volkswagen, died at the scene and her 14-month old son was flown to a pediatric trauma center in Baltimore.
Police say investigators don’t know where Murphy entered the highway or why she was going the wrong way.
