LINDEN, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a man struck and killed in a hit-and-run accident this week was a recent Rutgers University graduate who was due to receive his diploma Sunday.

Union County prosecutors say 23-year-old Mujahid Henry, of Newark, was struck by an SUV in Linden around 12:30 a.m. Friday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say the SUV’s driver, Eduardo Perez, drove off and abandoned the vehicle in nearby Elizabeth after he allegedly struck several parked cars. The 33-year-old Elizabeth man was soon captured and charged with death by auto and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

Henry had earned his bachelor’s degree in January from the School of Public Affairs and Administration at Rutgers-Newark. He was due to formally receive his degree during the school’s graduation ceremony.
