MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. (AP) - A North Carolina health department has closed its doors after the discovery of bed bugs.

Carteret County Health Director Dave Jenkins told area media outlets that bed bugs were found in the waiting area and an office at their office in Morehead City.

A pest control specialist performed an inspection and treated the affected areas on Thursday. The office was closed at 4 p.m. out of caution.

The health department was scheduled to reopen on Friday, but a news release from the agency said the office would remain closed out of “utmost concern and caution.”

Officials hope to reopen the office on Monday.
