AMHERST, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a 23-year-old New York City woman studying for her graduate degree has been struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing a suburban Buffalo road.

Police in the town of Amherst say Angel McNight-Miller was crossing Sweet Home Road near an intersection around 12:30 a.m. Thursday when she was struck by a car. Officers say she was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred near the University at Buffalo’s North Campus.

UB officials say she was a graduate student enrolled in the School of Social Work.

Police say the driver was an 18-year-old man from Niagara Falls. Officers say the man is cooperating with the investigation.

Officials say they don’t believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
