MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) - A former high school wrestling champion has died in a motorcycle crash in southern Oregon.
The Oregon State Police says 21-year-old Hunter Hoeptner was killed Tuesday when his red 2001 Honda sport bike struck the side of a pickup near the Jackson County Sports Park in Medford. Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.
The Mail Tribune reports (https://is.gd/9EqyNL ) the former Eagle Point High School wrestler won the Class 5A 160-pound state championship in 2014.
A February 2014 profile in the Mail Tribune showed that Hoeptner, a class president, had logged more than 100 hours of community service during his high school career.
Coach Kacey McNulty said the death is a tremendous loss. He recalled the young man’s leadership, generosity and compassion. The coach also remembered how the wrestler was good at repairing electronics, including his wife’s iPhone.
