RICHMOND, Calif. (AP) - Northern California police say they solved the puzzling rape and murder of an 82-year-old woman through DNA evidence.
The East Bay Times reported Wednesday (https://tinyurl.com/l62qeyp ) that a county grand jury 36-year-old Jonathan Jackson last month for the kidnap, rape and killing of Sun Yi Kwon in 2012. Kwon was found half-naked and near death behind a tire store in Richmond and died six months later because of her injuries.
Police pulled over Jackson in 2016 allegedly driving stolen car. Jackson’s DNA taken then matched genetic material recovered from Kwon.
Jackson told police he came across her battered body behind the store, but didn’t kill or rape her, according to grand jury testimony. He also told investigators that he failed to call 911.
He has pleaded not guilty and remains jailed.
