LANSFORD, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say an online tip that prompted early dismissal of an eastern Pennsylvania school appears to have been unfounded, and investigators are trying to find out who sent it.

Superintendent Dennis Kergick of the Panther Valley School District in Carbon County said an email was sent over the weekend to police in nearby Jim Thorpe alleging that a student at the junior/senior high school planned to bring two guns to school Monday.

Six local police officers, state police and county emergency personnel were on hand to check the school with the aid of dogs, and the approximately 900 students were dismissed at 10 a.m. Monday. The student was interviewed, nothing was found and he isn’t considered a suspect. Kergick says investigators are trying to find the source of the tip.
