DENVER (AP) - Churchgoers are protesting a decision by Denver’s Catholic archdiocese to close Our Lady of Visitation.
KCNC-TV reports (https://cbsloc.al/2qw1DqG) protesters gathered outside the gates of the archdiocese after the final Mass was held Sunday but were unable to meet with Archbishop Samuel Aquila.
The archdiocese had notified Our Lady of Visitation parishioners of the church’s April 30 closure in November, citing a lack of priests and low attendance.
Former Denver Mayor and parishioner Federico Pena has hand delivered more than 1,200 signed petitions to get the archbishop to reconsider.
The protesters plan to meet with Aquila this week.
The church’s 400 registered members are being redirected to the nearby Holy Trinity Parish.
