NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Authorities say a Norfolk school bus driver has been charged in connection with an accident that left multiple students injured.

News outlets report the driver was charged with failure to yield after the school bus crashed into an SUV on Friday.

Norfolk police spokeswoman Jo Ann Hughes says four students were brought to the hospital for an evaluation and eight children in total reported injuries after the crash.

Hughes says 42 children from the Academy for Discovery at Lakewood and three adults were on the bus returning from Virginia International Tattoo festivities at Scope.

Norfolk Public Schools spokeswoman Khalilah LeGrand says the school system is conducting an internal investigation. She says the driver will be reassigned and not allowed to drive.
