PHOENIX (AP) - Police say a man has been fatally stabbed on a Phoenix bus and a suspect is in custody.

They say a 33-year-old man ran onto a bus that had stopped in the downtown area about 10 a.m. Monday.

Police say the suspect had a brief interaction with the driver over fare payment and then pulled out a large knife and stabbed a 49-year-old man who had entered the bus before him.

The victim died at the scene and the suspect fled on foot. He was later arrested without incident and the knife was recovered.

Police say another man was wounded while trying to help the victim. He’s hospitalized with injuries that don’t appear to be life-threatening.

The names of the suspect and the dead man haven’t been released yet.
