STERLING, Colo. (AP) - The Latest on a wildfire burning in northeastern Colorado (all times local):

2:55 p.m.

Firefighters have stopped the spread of wildfire near Sterling but are still putting out flames and hot spots within the fire zone.



The fire started Thursday east of the Sterling prison and spread to about 700 acres. It was declared 100 percent contained within about three hours.

The Logan County Office of Emergency Management says no structures were burned.

The fire came a day after fire crews contained a nearby 50 square mile fire that destroyed four homes and led to the deaths of dozens of cattle.

Another wildfire is burning on the plains of northeastern Colorado near where a grass fire destroyed four homes killed dozens of cattle earlier this week.

The latest fire broke out Thursday east of the Sterling prison.

The Logan County Office of Emergency Management says it is spreading quickly. Air support has been requested to help firefighters battle the blaze.

The other fire burned about 50 square miles in Logan and Phillips counties before being contained Wednesday.

Ranchers in Phillips County reported they lost 200 cattle that were either killed by the fire or had to be killed because of their injuries.
