STANLEY, N.D. (AP) - Stanley residents this week soundly defeated a proposed $19.5 million bond issue that would have paid for a high school addition and renovations to existing classrooms.

The Minot Daily News (https://bit.ly/2najFOp ) reports that three-fourths of the 748 voters on Tuesday voted against the proposal.

Superintendent Tim Holte says rising enrollment prompted the election. He says the slowdown of the oil boom hasn’t had much of an impact on crowding issues.

The school board on Monday plans to discuss what to do next.
