WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - A Leominster man who shot another man in the head has been sentenced to up to 14 years in prison.
The Telegram & Gazette (https://bit.ly/2lH4FdT ) reports that 33-year-old William Morales-Lopez was sentenced Wednesday following his conviction earlier this month on charges including armed assault with intent to kill.
Prosecutors say Morales-Lopez shot Luis Vera in the back of the head and the hand in October 2014. The 32-year-old Vera identified Morales-Lopez as his assailant.
Vera testified during the trial that he had been involved in a dispute with a friend of Morales-Lopez, and that Morales-Lopez had threatened him prior to the shooting.
The defendant’s lawyer argued for a lesser sentence, saying his client had no criminal record and Vera was released from the hospital the day after the shooting.
