BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a man led Kern County sheriff’s deputies on a short chase before taking his own life inside his car.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy tried to stop Marco Antonio Loera Fregoso for a traffic infraction Wednesday evening in Bakersfield but he refused to pull over.

They say the 33-year-old led deputies on a short car chase before he crashed into another vehicle.

Authorities say when a deputy approached Fregoso’s car they found him dead inside the vehicle from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Investigators said the two people in the vehicle that was struck suffered minor injuries.

An investigation is ongoing.
