CASTLETON, Vt. (AP) - The president of Vermont’s Castleton University is planning to retire in December.

The university announced Wednesday that President David Wolk, who has been president of Castleton since 2001, will be stepping down.

This year marks Wolk’s 43rd year of public service.

Beginning next year Wolk and his wife Lyn are planning a startup venture, Wolk Leadership Solutions, which will work with leaders in business, government, industry, schools, hospitals, universities and an array of nonprofits to achieve greater success. The venture will also offer mediation and conflict resolution services.

During Wolk’s years at Castleton, the university invested nearly $100 million in infrastructure improvements, expanded academic offerings at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and expanded co-curricular activities.

Castleton University is a part of the Vermont State College system.
