POTOMAC, Md. (AP) - An investigation is underway after a student received an anti-Semitic text message at a Montgomery County high school.

WTOP-FM reports (https://bit.ly/2m2heN2) teachers and parents of students at Winston Churchill High School received a letter Tuesday informing them of what happened on March 2.

Montgomery County police spokesman Officer Rick Goodale says a student whose class was in the midst of studying the Holocaust received the text.

Principal Joan Benz said in a message to the Churchill community that it was sent via an app that allows users to send messages using a fake phone number.

Benz says such hurtful comments will not be tolerated. The school is investigating.

There were 62 hate crimes last year in Montgomery County, including incidents in the schools. That’s a 17 percent increase over 2015.
