WASHINGTON (AP) - Center City Public Charter Schools, a network of six charter schools in Washington, plans to close Wednesday because of a large number of staff requests for time off to participate in “A Day Without A Woman.”
The announcement was made on the schools’ Twitter page Tuesday afternoon. “A Day Without a Woman” is the first national action by organizers of the January Women’s March since the nationwide marches held the day after President Donald Trump’s inauguration that drew millions of women into the streets.
Wednesday’s event coincides with the U.N.-designated International Women’s Day.
Television station WTTG-TV first reported (https://bit.ly/2mygzWG ) the closure Tuesday morning.
The schools are located in the Brightwood, Capitol Hill, Congress Heights, Petworth, Shaw and Trinidad neighborhoods.
