KURE BEACH, N.C. (AP) - One person has been rescued but another is still missing after bystanders reported seeing two people jump off the Kure Beach Fishing Pier.
Kure Beach Deputy Fire Chief Wayne Bostic tells local media that the incident was reported around 1:45 p.m. Monday.
He says the man pulled from the water was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. No details have been available on his condition.
Two U.S. Coast Guard boats and a helicopter were deployed by 4 p.m. Monday to look for the remaining missing man. At dusk, Kure Beach police were driving vehicles along the edge of the water.
As of 5:13 a.m. Tuesday, the Coast Guard was still actively searching for the swimmer.
