PORTSMOUTH, Va. (AP) - Authorities say a 6-year-old girl has been taken to a hospital with minor injuries after she was hit by a school bus in Portsmouth.

Media outlets report that it happened Friday morning in the area of Lincoln Street and Piedmont Avenue.

Portsmouth Police spokeswoman Detective Misty Holley says the school bus was traveling at a low rate of speed when the girl crossed into its path. The bus bumped the girl, who fell and hit her head.

Holley says the girl’s injuries are minor and she was alert and talking when medics arrived. She says the girl was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.
