BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Fire crews in Buffalo remain at the scene of a blaze that started in a home before dawn and spread to three neighboring houses.

Firefighters were called out around 5 a.m. Friday for a report of a fire at a home on Jewett Avenue on the city’s east side.

The flames quickly spread to nearby homes, some of which were vacant. Seven people who were safely evacuated from the homes are being helped by the Salvation Army and Red Cross.

Crews have extinguished the flames but remain at the scene searching for hotspots inside the buildings.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
