LAS VEGAS (AP) - A 48-year-old former Las Vegas kindergarten teacher has been found guilty of abducting a 16-year-old girl who he said he met through an internet advertisement and kept in his apartment for nine weeks in 2013.

Melvyn Perry Sprowson Jr. could face up to life in prison following the verdicts delivered Friday on all six kidnapping, child abuse and child pornography charges against him.

Sentencing is set May 17.

Sprowson served as his own lawyer, and questioned the now 19-year-old girl during trial in Nevada state court.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2oIxPWX ) that Sprowson told the jury the girl stayed with him willingly, but conceded he lied to school authorities and police about her whereabouts.

The girl was old enough in Nevada to consent to sex. But it is illegal in the state to keep a minor from his or her parents.
