CROSS LANES, W.Va. (AP) - Two people died after a house in Cross Lanes with no smoke detectors caught fire.

The West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office says William and Elfride Wade, both 85, died in the Thursday house fire.

Fire crews were called to the house around 2 a.m. Thursday.

Investigators didn’t find any signs of a smoke detector in the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Officials with the Kanawha County Emergency Management are asking residents to check their home smoke detectors and ensure they’re working.
