PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police have identified the man killed by police on Thursday after he allegedly pointed his gun at an officer during an encounter at an apartment complex.

Police say 27-year-old Michael Cisneros was wanted for a probation violation and that he pointed a pistol at an officer who was trying to detain him. According to police, Cisneros had fled when police contacted him but was surrounded by the time he pulled the gun on the officer.

Police say the officer, who has not been identified, feared for his safety.

Cisneros died at the hospital. No officers were injured.
