PALO ALTO, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a dump truck slammed into a San Francisco Bay Area freeway overpass late Thursday night, damaging the structure and forcing two lanes to be closed during the Friday morning commute.

KCBS reports (https://cbsloc.al/2mTBK2f ) the California Highway Patrol says the driver forgot to lower the bed of the truck after dumping off a load at a roadway construction site. Authorities say the driver slammed his head on the steering wheel at the time of the crash. His condition was not available Friday.

A Caltrans structural engineer was expected to arrive Friday to determine if the overpass is safe.

The CHP says that two southbound lanes of Highway 101 in Palo Alto would be closed until at least noon Friday.
