SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A Salt Lake City organization is hosting a series of trainings this month to make sure refugees and immigrants understand their rights under President Donald Trump’s travel ban and refugee program suspension.
The refugee advocacy group says since Trump’s first order was signed it has received hundreds of questions from refugees and immigrants who are worried about being deported.
Salah Omar is a refugee from Somalia who says he is terrified that under Trump’s order he could get sent back to his home country.
Utah refugee attorney James McConkie said Tuesday that there has been a significant spike in the number of these refugee training events in the state since Trump’s presidency, even though the order has been put on hold by judges.
Although Utah elected Trump, it has had a long history of being welcoming to refugees.
