PROVO, Utah (AP) - The city of Cedar Hills is testing water and soil to determine if there were any heavy metals in sediment that flowed down a river in American Fork Canyon last August and made its way to the city’s irrigation water.
Cedar Hills Mayor Gary Gygi said Tuesday that samples were taken at areas that were irrigated at the time of the spill. Gygi says the city doesn’t have reason to believe heavy metals were in the water but officials want to ensure there’s no problems.
The Daily Herald in Provo reports (https://bit.ly/2nAnWNi) that the nearby city of American Fork also ran water tests after the release but did not find increased levels of metals in city soil.
The sediment was accidently released during a rehabilitation project on the Tibble Fork Dam.
