ROCKLAND, Maine (AP) - Two business owners in Maine say they plan to sue over a new rule that requires them to reduce their daily doses of opioid painkillers.
People taking opioid pain medications must lower their doses to no more than 100 morphine milligram equivalents a day by July.
WLBZ-TV reports an attorney for Eric Wass and Brian Rockett filed court documents informing the state that they plan to file a lawsuit because they want to be exempted.
Wass owns a roofing company in Rockland. Rockett owns an Owls Head business that buys lobsters. Both take painkillers for a degenerative disc disease.
Court documents say the requirement will prevent them from working or participating in basic life activities.
The state Department of Health and Human Services says there are exemptions, including for palliative care.
