PENN HILLS, Pa. (AP) - A defense attorney says a man questioned by police in the shooting death of a teenager outside a suburban Pittsburgh middle school was acting in self-defense.
Allegheny County officials say 16-year-old Deven Holloway was found in the parking lot outside Linton Middle School in Penn Hills shortly after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials said Holloway was a student in the Penn Hills school district but didn’t attend the school, from which students had already been dismissed for the day. A prayer vigil was held Wednesday.
Defense attorney Phil DiLucente said his 22-year-old client voluntarily went to police Tuesday night and was questioned and released Wednesday morning. He said his client was there to play basketball and was defending himself, and was licensed to carry his firearm.
