ROTHSCHILD, Wis. (AP) - The Latest on a shooting in northern Wisconsin that left a police officer and three others dead (all times local):

The police detective killed in a string of shootings that left three others dead and the suspect injured is being remembered as a friend who would help another in a heartbeat.



Forty-year-old Jason Weiland was a detective for the Everest Metro Police Department. He died Wednesday when he was shot in the line of duty.

Some of his friends told USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin that they remember him as funny, sensitive and tough.

Eric Wetzel, graduated from high school with Weiland in 1995. He says Weiland worked to become a leader in the Everest Metro department, and had achieved his dream job.

Wetzel says Weiland “just believed in protecting people.”

Nengmy Vang is suspected of shooting Weiland and three others. Vang was injured in a standoff with police.

A vigil is being held this weekend to honor four people killed in a string of shootings in Wisconsin.

WSAW-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2n86QEM ) the vigil is planned for 7 p.m. Sunday at Kennedy Park in Weston.

Forty-five-year-old Nengmy Vang is accused of launching a rampage that spanned three northern Wisconsin towns Wednesday, killing his wife’s divorce attorney, a police detective and two people at a bank.

Investigators haven’t identified Vang by name. But investigators say he showed up at the Rothschild bank where his wife worked and shot two workers, Dianne Look and Karen Barclay. He then went to Schofield and shot attorney Sara Quirt Sann in her office, then barricaded himself in his Weston apartment, fatally shooting Everest Metro Police detective Jason Weiland.

Vang was injured in a standoff with police.
